Explain why a host-network test does not reproduce a container failure
A process in another network namespace can have different routes, DNS and listeners from the host. Identify the namespace boundary before testing.
Environment and inputs: Linux server baseline · Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / RHEL 9-style systems. Use the specified distribution, init system and installed tool; service names, privileges and supported options can differ.
Start with this check
Confirm the host, shell and access role. Replace sample names, paths, domains and interfaces with approved targets. These are diagnostic commands; assess policy and workload impact before making changes.
ip netns list
Read the result
The command lists named network namespaces managed through this interface. It does not enumerate every container runtime's unnamed process namespace.
Resolve and verify
Use the container platform's approved inspection path to collect the affected process's real network context. Compare its routes, DNS and policy with the host test.
Before changing production
Do not move interfaces or enter arbitrary namespaces with broad privileges during a production incident.
