Investigate an EtherCAT working-counter mismatch in context
A cyclic frame can return a result inconsistent with the expected device participation. The counter is evidence, not a complete fault location.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Compare expected and actual working-counter diagnostics with device state, link counters and the affected process-data group.
Interpret the evidence
A mismatch can involve missing participation, configuration or transient communication problems. A healthy later cycle does not explain an earlier event.
Resolve and verify
Correlate the first failing device and time with supported topology and I/O diagnostics, repair the demonstrated cause and verify stable cyclic operation.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not change expected counters or suppress validity handling merely to make diagnostics look normal.
