PLC / Drives, Motion & Axis Diagnostics
Investigate axis feedback errors before changing position scaling
Position faults can involve an encoder, cable, configuration, mechanical coupling or communication issue. A numeric position alone cannot identify the source.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Record the exact feedback diagnostic, axis state, position-quality flags and approved encoder configuration without moving the axis experimentally.
Interpret the evidence
A stale or invalid feedback value can still look plausible. Feedback technology and supported diagnostic meanings vary by drive and controller.
Resolve and verify
Have the motion owner repair the demonstrated feedback-chain defect and validate referencing and controlled operation through the approved commissioning plan.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not loosen feedback limits or run without required feedback to suppress the fault.
