PLC / Drives, Motion & Axis Diagnostics
Distinguish absolute and relative motion requests during PLC diagnosis
A target can appear wrong because the program requests an absolute position while the application expects an increment, or the reverse.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Review the exact motion function, coordinate frame, current reference state and approved target definition without executing movement.
Interpret the evidence
The same numeric argument can represent different destinations under different functions or frames. A valid call does not prove a safe physical target.
Resolve and verify
Correct the tested command design and coordinate assumptions, then validate bounded movements through the authorized motion commissioning plan.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not issue a trial move to determine what a target means on the running machine.
