Homing can fail because of mode, sensor sequence, feedback validity, configured method or a mechanical prerequisite.

Observe and record
Record the selected supported homing method, state, sensor observations and exact error using the drive or axis diagnostics.
Interpret the evidence
Different methods use different reference information and permitted movement. A sensor becoming active does not universally mean homing is complete.
Resolve and verify
Repair the demonstrated prerequisite or approved configuration and validate referencing through the machine's controlled homing procedure.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not start homing from an unverified location, bypass limits or reach into the mechanism to trigger a sensor.
