ORA-19809: investigate the recovery-area space limit
The fast recovery area can reach its configured limit before the underlying device is full. Inspect database-managed accounting and recovery dependencies.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT name, space_limit, space_used, space_reclaimable, number_of_files FROM v$recovery_file_dest;
Read the result
SPACE_RECLAIMABLE is Oracle's accounting estimate, not permission to delete files manually. Storage capacity and the configured area limit are separate constraints.
Resolve and verify
Identify which file types consume space and whether backups, standby requirements or restore points prevent reuse. Apply a supported capacity or retention correction through RMAN and the DBA.
Operational precautions
Never remove recovery-area files with OS deletion to make the accounting percentage smaller.
