Oracle Database / RMAN Backup & Recovery
Check keystore readiness before relying on encrypted recovery
An encrypted database or backup can be unrecoverable without the required keys. Include keystore access in the recovery design and test.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT wrl_type, status, wallet_type, con_id FROM v$encryption_wallet;
Read the result
The view reports keystore state in the authorized database context. An open keystore now does not prove that recovery staff can access all historical keys elsewhere.
Resolve and verify
Verify approved key backup and restore procedures, separation of access and recovery-environment readiness. Rehearse recovery with encrypted data under the intended controls.
Operational precautions
Never export private keys or wallet secrets into a general support ticket. Key rotation must preserve recovery dependencies.
