ORA-19504: investigate failure to create a backup output file
A backup channel may be unable to create its destination because the path, permissions, mount or capacity is wrong. Read the accompanying OS error.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SHOW ALL;Read the result
The RMAN configuration helps identify default output destinations, though the job may override them with its own FORMAT or channel parameters.
Resolve and verify
Check the effective destination under the actual Oracle service account. Repair the approved path or capacity and retest a limited backup through the normal job.
Operational precautions
Do not make backup directories world-writable or redirect backups to an unprotected temporary location.
