ORA-19502: investigate a backup write error on the target medium
A write failure can indicate full storage, a disconnected mount or a lower-level device issue. Preserve filename, block details and the full error stack.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT name, value FROM v$diag_info WHERE name = 'Diag Trace';
Read the result
The diagnostic location can help locate associated server errors. RMAN output and OS or media-manager logs are also required for the failing channel.
Resolve and verify
Stabilize the destination with the storage owner, check whether the partial piece is usable and rerun the correct backup scope. Verify the new backup independently.
Operational precautions
Do not assume that a partially written backup piece is a valid recovery source.
