ORA-01654: investigate index tablespace growth separately
An insert may fail while extending an index even when its table tablespace has room. Use the tablespace and index named in the error.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT owner, index_name, tablespace_name, status FROM dba_indexes WHERE owner = 'APP_OWNER' AND index_name = 'APP_ORDERS_IX';
Read the result
The index location can differ from the table's storage. Partitioned indexes also need their partition and subpartition locations checked.
Resolve and verify
Inspect the named tablespace's free extents, autoextend ceilings and storage headroom. Plan a targeted capacity correction and retest the original insert.
Operational precautions
Do not drop a unique index or constraint just to permit the insert. It may enforce essential business integrity.
