ORA-01652: identify the segment and tablespace needing temporary allocation
A temporary-segment allocation failure can involve TEMP or work performed in another named tablespace. Start with the complete error and operation.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT tablespace_name, tablespace_size, allocated_space, free_space FROM dba_temp_free_space;
Read the result
For temporary tablespaces, the values summarize reported capacity and space accounting. They must be interpreted with current consumers and actual storage availability.
Resolve and verify
Find the requesting SQL or maintenance task, compare concurrent TEMP use and tune excessive work. Grow the appropriate storage only after confirming the named segment and capacity need.
Operational precautions
Do not assume every ORA-01652 refers to the default TEMP or add files without checking where the allocation failed.
