ORA-01653: diagnose a table extent allocation failure
An insert can fail when its segment cannot obtain another extent. Check allocated file capacity, growth limits and real storage headroom together.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT file_name, bytes, autoextensible, maxbytes FROM dba_data_files WHERE tablespace_name = 'APP_DATA';
Read the result
AUTOEXTENSIBLE does not mean growth is unlimited or underlying storage is available. MAXBYTES and the filesystem or ASM capacity constrain expansion.
Resolve and verify
Compare tablespace free extents with the requested allocation. Add or grow capacity through the supported smallfile or bigfile procedure after confirming storage and backup coverage.
Operational precautions
Do not enable unlimited growth without capacity controls or delete database files at the OS level.
