Oracle Database / SQL & PL/SQL Errors
ORA-00904: verify an identifier against actual column names
A statement can fail after deployment because a column was renamed, quoted with mixed case or referenced through an incorrect alias.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT column_name, data_type FROM all_tab_columns WHERE owner = 'APP_OWNER' AND table_name = 'APP_ORDERS' ORDER BY column_id;
Read the result
The result shows visible column names and types. Quoted mixed-case identifiers must be referenced with matching case and quotes.
Resolve and verify
Compare the failing SQL and alias scope with the deployed schema. Correct the statement or reconcile the missing schema migration, then rerun the intended test.
Operational precautions
Do not add a column simply to silence a typo. Application and database releases must be compatible.
