ORA-00936: locate a missing SQL expression
A generated query may leave an empty select item, predicate or function argument. Capture the final SQL shape rather than only the application template.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT sql_id, sql_text FROM v$sql WHERE sql_id = 'REPLACE_SQL_ID';
Read the result
A matching cached statement can help if it parsed, but SQL that failed parsing may never appear here. Obtain the sanitized failing SQL from the client when necessary.
Resolve and verify
Inspect the error position and preceding comma, operator or clause. Repair the query builder so optional filters produce valid expressions in every branch.
Operational precautions
Do not log raw sensitive bind values. SQL text alone may not reproduce a datatype-dependent failure.
