Oracle Database / Operations & Incident Response
Read the Oracle alert log from the correct ADR home
A host may contain diagnostics for several databases and listeners. Select the intended home before interpreting an alert message.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
adrci
show homes
Read the result
Run adrci in the authorized host shell, then enter show homes at its prompt. The home list identifies diagnostic repositories, not which one your application uses.
Resolve and verify
Select the verified home with ADRCI's documented home-path command, then inspect a bounded alert-log window around the failure. Preserve related error stacks and timestamps.
Operational precautions
Do not run purge commands during evidence collection. Diagnostic content can contain private SQL and host details.
