Oracle Database / Operations & Incident Response
Investigate an Oracle Scheduler job that never starts
A missing run can reflect a disabled job, schedule condition, resource control or job-queue configuration. Begin with the job's own state.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT owner, job_name, enabled, state, next_run_date, failure_count FROM dba_scheduler_jobs WHERE owner = 'APP_OWNER' AND job_name = 'APP_NIGHTLY_JOB';
Read the result
State and next-run information narrow the cause but do not prove worker availability. Repeated failures may disable a job depending on its configuration.
Resolve and verify
Compare the schedule, failure history and relevant instance settings with the intended design. Reenable only after fixing the reason it was disabled.
Operational precautions
Do not globally increase job concurrency or repeatedly force execution over an unresolved application failure.
