Docker / Volumes, Filesystems & Recovery
Investigate a Docker volume whose driver or backend is unavailable
A named volume can exist in metadata while its external storage provider cannot mount it. Inspect the driver before treating it as local data.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker volume inspect --format '{{.Driver}} {{json .Options}}' app-data
Read the result
The metadata identifies driver configuration, which may include sensitive connection details. It does not prove backend availability or credential validity.
Resolve and verify
Correlate daemon and provider errors with the approved plugin, network and storage identity. Repair the specific dependency and verify a safe application access test.
Before changing production
Do not expose driver secrets, substitute a local empty volume or remove provider state to clear the mount error.
