Investigate bind-mount ownership under rootless or user-namespace Docker
Numeric IDs inside and outside a container can differ because of user mapping. Ordinary rootful assumptions may produce incorrect ownership changes.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker info --format '{{json .SecurityOptions}}'
docker container inspect --format '{{json .Config.User}} {{json .Mounts}}' app
Read the result
Security mode, requested user and mounts provide mapping context. The actual subordinate-ID and namespace configuration require the platform's supported inspection.
Resolve and verify
Compare the approved mapping with host-path ownership and driver support. Correct the specific design and validate writes without broad host permission changes.
Before changing production
Do not recursively change shared host ownership based on the container's displayed root name or disable namespace isolation casually.
