Docker / Networking, Ports & Service Connectivity
Explain a container's missing external access on an internal network
A network can be intentionally marked internal, limiting external connectivity. Check its actual configuration before changing DNS.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker network inspect --format '{{.Internal}} {{.Driver}}' appnet
Read the result
Internal mode describes network isolation intent, not the complete effective path for a container attached to several networks.
Resolve and verify
Compare every intended network attachment and approved backend dependency with the security design. Correct the managed architecture only when external access is actually required.
Before changing production
Do not disable internal isolation or add a public network merely to make a test command succeed.
