Check free space on Windows volumes with PowerShell
Application updates and user profile operations can fail when a volume fills up. Inspect each relevant volume rather than assuming the system drive is the only one involved.
Environment and inputs: Windows 11 · Command Prompt unless PowerShell is specified
Try the diagnostic command
Use the stated shell and platform. Replace sample domains, addresses, services and paths with values from the system you are authorized to support.
Get-Volume | Select-Object DriveLetter, FileSystemLabel, FileSystem, HealthStatus, SizeRemaining, Size
How to read the result
The result shows total and remaining bytes for available volumes. HealthStatus is one signal from the storage stack and does not rule out every hardware problem.
What to do next
Check the volume used by the failing application and its temporary data. Identify approved cleanup targets and confirm retention requirements before removing anything.
Before you make a change
Some volumes have no drive letter. Do not format or resize a volume as a response to a low-space message without a separately approved storage plan.
