Compare IPv4 and IPv6 reachability on Windows
Some users reach a site while others stall because address selection exposes an IPv6 path problem. Compare the two paths while retaining the original application symptom.
Environment and inputs: Mixed platforms · each example identifies its shell or required tool
Try the diagnostic command
Use the stated shell and platform. Replace sample domains, addresses, services and paths with values from the system you are authorized to support.
ping -4 example.com
ping -6 example.com
How to read the result
Windows uses the selected address family for each test. Replies demonstrate ICMP reachability only; resolution or routing may fail independently for either family.
What to do next
Record the resolved addresses and follow with an actual HTTPS test. If one family fails consistently, investigate its gateway, routing and firewall path with the network owner.
Before you make a change
Do not disable IPv6 across managed endpoints as a generic fix. A site without an AAAA record cannot provide a meaningful IPv6 ping comparison.
