Linux Server / Filesystems, LVM & Recovery
Check the effective NFS exports before broadening access
A client can reach the NFS server but be denied by export matching, path or identity rules. Inspect active exports.
Environment and inputs: Linux server baseline · Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / RHEL 9-style systems. Use the specified distribution, init system and installed tool; service names, privileges and supported options can differ.
Start with this check
Confirm the host, shell and access role. Replace sample names, paths, domains and interfaces with approved targets. These are diagnostic commands; assess policy and workload impact before making changes.
exportfs -v
Read the result
On an NFS server with authorized privileges, this lists exported paths and options. Client-side identity mapping and filesystem permissions still apply.
Resolve and verify
Compare the exact client source, export path and required access with the approved policy. Repair the narrow export or filesystem issue and retest under the actual service identity.
Before changing production
Do not export broad directories to every host or disable root squashing as a generic permission workaround.
