PLC / Analog Signals & Measurement Quality
Distinguish a genuine low process value from an analog wiring fault
A low numerical reading can indicate process minimum, underrange, disabled input or a detected open circuit depending on the module.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Record channel quality, status flags, configured signal range and the raw value without changing the signal path.
Interpret the evidence
A zero display is not enough to diagnose a broken sensor. Diagnostic thresholds and substitute values are specific to the device and mode.
Resolve and verify
Compare the full status with the loop documentation and arrange qualified investigation of the demonstrated fault. Validate both normal measurement and invalid-quality handling afterward.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not clamp every low reading to process zero or suppress wire-break diagnostics to keep a display plausible.
