PLC / Analog Signals & Measurement Quality
Investigate an analog input's reference and common-mode limitations
A differential measurement can still fail when its input common-mode range or reference conditions are violated.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Compare the approved loop drawing, isolation design, module input specifications and available channel diagnostics without altering earth or reference connections.
Interpret the evidence
Differential does not automatically mean galvanically isolated or tolerant of any ground difference. Reference requirements vary between modules.
Resolve and verify
Have the instrument and electrical owners assess the documented reference arrangement using the approved test process, then validate the supported corrected installation.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not disconnect protective earth or connect signal references together by trial and error.
