PLC / Industrial Networks & PLC Communications
Check gateway unit routing when TCP connects but a downstream PLC does not answer
A gateway may accept TCP while routing the request to an absent or incorrectly addressed serial device.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Compare the approved gateway route, unit identifier, downstream address and serial format with the exact failed transaction.
Interpret the evidence
A TCP handshake validates neither gateway routing nor downstream application data. Unit-ID behavior can differ by gateway and direct server.
Resolve and verify
Correct the specific managed routing or device-address mismatch and validate the intended read-only register through the full path.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not scan unit identifiers with write requests or change every downstream address during an active process.
