Check PROFINET device identity before replacing an unreachable station
A PROFINET device can have an address yet fail configuration association because its assigned name or identity differs from the project.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Record the approved device name, configured hardware identity and reported station diagnostics using the vendor's normal tools.
Interpret the evidence
An IP address alone does not establish the required PROFINET association. Replacement and name-assignment procedures are product-specific.
Resolve and verify
Have the controls owner reconcile the approved station identity and device configuration, then validate normal cyclic data and diagnostics.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not assign names to unidentified devices or accept a replacement by matching its physical appearance alone.
