PLC / Digital I/O, Sensors & Actuators
Investigate an actuator feedback timeout through the whole signal chain
A sequence may report timeout when feedback arrives late, is mapped incorrectly or never reflects the expected mechanism state.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Capture command, state-machine step, feedback status and timing using approved records or a bounded trace appropriate to the platform.
Interpret the evidence
A timeout does not automatically mean a bad limit switch. Mechanical travel, sensor adjustment, input filtering and task latency all contribute.
Resolve and verify
Repair the demonstrated physical or logical cause and validate both completion and timeout behavior through the machine's authorized test plan.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not simply lengthen the timeout or bypass feedback without reviewing the reason for the original limit.
