Investigate repeated PLC input transitions from a mechanical contact
A counter or sequence can react several times to one physical operation when the contact or signal path produces rapid transitions.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Use an existing approved trace or event capture to compare raw transitions, filtered state and the machine operation. Record capture sampling limitations.
Interpret the evidence
Contact bounce, noise and repeated mechanical actuation can look similar at a slow HMI refresh. Filter settings also add response delay.
Resolve and verify
Identify the demonstrated cause, then select supported hardware maintenance or a reviewed debounce design and validate required response time.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not add an arbitrary long delay to an input whose timing contributes to a protective function.
