PLC / Digital I/O, Sensors & Actuators
Find an I/O mapping shift after a hardware configuration change
Adding or replacing a module can change addressing or symbolic mappings so the application reads the wrong physical channel.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Compare the approved previous configuration, actual module order, channel mapping and application references using the engineering tool's supported views.
Interpret the evidence
Adjacent addresses are not guaranteed to preserve meaning after configuration changes. Symbolic names can also remain misleading after a remap.
Resolve and verify
Correct the managed configuration and documentation through the controls owner, then perform the approved channel-by-channel validation.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not rewire terminals to match an unexplained software shift or download an unverified configuration to the live rack.
