PLC / Drives, Motion & Axis Diagnostics
Investigate brake-related motion symptoms without assuming the PLC command proves release
A brake command, drive status and actual mechanical release can differ. Gravity and stored energy make informal tests inappropriate.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Review approved brake sequencing, feedback where provided, drive diagnostics and the machine's load-support design from existing records.
Interpret the evidence
An enabled drive or STO indication does not universally establish brake state. Brake control and feedback behavior are equipment-specific.
Resolve and verify
Have qualified motion and mechanical maintenance investigate under the validated securing and isolation process, then verify the approved sequence.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not release a brake, disable feedback or rely on motor torque alone to support an unsecured load during diagnosis.
