PLC / Maintenance, Reliability & OT Security
Record active PLC forces before planning their removal
A force can alter physical or logical behavior independently of normal application requests. Removing it can itself change machine state.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Use the platform's authorized force-status view to record affected variables or channels, current force state and documented maintenance ownership.
Interpret the evidence
A displayed tag may not reveal every platform's effective forced I/O behavior. An unexplained force is not permission for immediate removal.
Resolve and verify
Have the machine and controls owners reconcile the force with the maintenance plan and use the validated controlled removal and verification procedure.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not add test forces or clear all forces on running equipment without assessing the resulting physical transitions.
