Check enabled Oracle roles in the failing session
A role granted to a user may not be enabled in every session. Application logon triggers and explicit role changes can alter the effective context.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT role FROM session_roles ORDER BY role;
Read the result
This shows enabled roles for the current session, not every role granted in the database. A separate DBA session may have a different role set.
Resolve and verify
Compare the affected session with approved default roles and application initialization. Correct role activation only where it matches the intended access design.
Operational precautions
Do not enable all granted roles indiscriminately or assume role privileges apply inside definer-rights stored code.
