Investigate a synonym resolving to the wrong Oracle object
An unqualified name can resolve differently across schemas after a synonym or object changes. Inspect both private and public synonyms.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT owner, synonym_name, table_owner, table_name, db_link FROM all_synonyms WHERE synonym_name = 'APP_ORDERS';
Read the result
The result reveals visible synonym targets and possible remote links. Object naming resolution also depends on the current schema and existing local objects.
Resolve and verify
Confirm the application's current schema and intended owner, then correct the naming design or use an approved qualified reference. Validate dependencies after deployment.
Operational precautions
Do not repoint a public synonym for one application's convenience without reviewing other consumers.
