Preview the backups RMAN would choose for a database restore
A restore rehearsal should establish the intended recovery chain before copying files. Preview the proposed selection in the correct target context.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
RESTORE DATABASE PREVIEW;Read the result
In RMAN, preview reports backup selection without restoring datafiles. A selection from metadata does not prove the media can actually be read.
Resolve and verify
Check the selected pieces, required redo and intended recovery point. Follow with an authorized media validation and isolated recovery test.
Operational precautions
Do not confuse preview with a completed recovery test or execute a restore against the live target as a trial.
