ORA-02085: investigate a database link global-name mismatch
A database link can connect remotely but fail naming checks when its name differs from the remote global database name.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT global_name FROM global_name;
SELECT name, value FROM v$parameter WHERE name = 'global_names';
Read the result
Run in the relevant authorized contexts to compare the remote global name and local naming policy. The queries do not modify link behavior.
Resolve and verify
Reconcile the approved link name and target identity, then recreate or correct the link through the DBA's secure procedure if required.
Operational precautions
Do not disable GLOBAL_NAMES globally merely to hide an incorrect remote target.
