ORA-01795: replace an oversized IN list with a scalable design
On Oracle 19c, a very large expression list can exceed the SQL limit. Capturing how the application generates the predicate is more useful than increasing statement text length.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT banner_full FROM v$version;
Read the result
Confirm the database release because expression-list limits and alternatives vary by version. The original error identifies the list that exceeded its limit.
Resolve and verify
Use a supported collection, staging-table join or appropriately chunked application design with correct semantics. Test NULL handling and duplicate identifiers.
Operational precautions
Do not concatenate user input into SQL or assume a newer release's limits apply to 19c.
