ORA-01157: identify an inaccessible datafile before recovery
Oracle may be unable to identify or lock a datafile because storage, file identity or access is wrong. Read the accompanying errors and file number.
Environment and inputs: Oracle Database 19c baseline · SQL*Plus-compatible SQL unless RMAN, DGMGRL, ADRCI or a host shell is specified. Check release, patch level, edition and container first.
Start with this diagnostic
Use the stated SQL, RMAN, DGMGRL or host shell and replace sample names with approved targets. DBA and V$ views need authorized catalog access in the correct container. Do not grant broad privileges for an example.
SELECT file#, name, status FROM v$datafile ORDER BY file#;
Read the result
The control-file metadata shows the expected path and status. It does not prove the path currently contains the correct accessible file.
Resolve and verify
Compare the named file with mount, ASM and OS evidence. Restore access or follow a validated media-recovery plan using known backups and redo.
Operational precautions
Do not create an empty file at the expected path or take an important file offline as a generic fix.
