Kubernetes / Storage, Configuration & Data Protection
Explain delayed volume binding under WaitForFirstConsumer
Some storage deliberately waits until scheduling can choose a compatible topology. A Pending claim can therefore be expected before an eligible consumer exists.
Environment and inputs: Kubernetes · kubectl with supported client/server versions and delegated RBAC. Examples use namespace app unless noted. Check context, namespace, APIs and provider support first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
kubectl get storageclass fast -o jsonpath='{.volumeBindingMode}'
kubectl -n app describe pod database-0
Read the result
The binding mode and scheduler events show whether placement and storage topology are being coordinated. Direct node assignment can interfere with the intended process.
Resolve and verify
Compare topology, affinity and node eligibility with the supported storage design. Correct the workload placement constraint and observe normal binding.
Before changing production
Do not force a random static binding or bypass the scheduler to make the claim appear ready.
