Kubernetes / Deployments, Scheduling & Batch Workloads
Investigate a Kubernetes Job that exhausts its retry budget
A failed batch job can retry the same deterministic error until its backoff limit is reached. Inspect controller conditions and each attempt.
Environment and inputs: Kubernetes · kubectl with supported client/server versions and delegated RBAC. Examples use namespace app unless noted. Check context, namespace, APIs and provider support first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
kubectl -n app describe job reconcile
Read the result
The Job description shows completion targets, failures and recent events. Application logs are still needed to explain the first failed task.
Resolve and verify
Determine whether partial committed work exists, correct the input or dependency and use a safe approved rerun strategy. Validate the business output, not just completion count.
Before changing production
Do not raise retry limits indefinitely or rerun non-idempotent tasks without reconciling prior work.
