Kubernetes / Storage, Configuration & Data Protection
Explain why a ConfigMap change did not update a running application
ConfigMap delivery and application reload behavior differ between environment variables and mounted files. Inspect how the workload consumes configuration.
Environment and inputs: Kubernetes · kubectl with supported client/server versions and delegated RBAC. Examples use namespace app unless noted. Check context, namespace, APIs and provider support first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
kubectl -n app get deployment web -o yaml
Read the result
The template shows environment references and volume mounts. It may display literal configuration values, so inspect locally and share only sanitized fields.
Resolve and verify
Compare the consumption method and application reload contract with the intended change. Use the approved rollout or reload workflow and verify the effective behavior.
Before changing production
Do not assume every ConfigMap edit restarts Pods or that a projected-file update automatically reloads the process.
