Docker / Compose, Swarm & Production Security
Trace a Compose project's actual persistent volume names
A project-name change can select a new volume and make a database appear empty. Inspect labels and active mounts before initialization.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker volume ls --filter label=com.docker.compose.project=app
Read the result
The filter identifies volumes labeled for the illustrative project. External or explicitly named volumes can follow a different ownership model.
Resolve and verify
Compare the resolved project settings, container mounts and previous release inventory. Reconcile the intended data through a safe reviewed migration or reattachment.
Before changing production
Do not run down with volume-removal options or prune old project volumes before confirming data ownership and backups.
