Docker / Compose, Swarm & Production Security
Explain why docker compose restart did not apply a new configuration
Restarting existing containers is different from recreating them with a changed model or image. Inspect the current artifacts first.
Environment and inputs: Docker Engine · Compose v2 and Buildx where specified; Linux containers unless noted. Verify daemon context, installed feature support and authorized host or Swarm manager access first.
Start with this check
Confirm the environment and replace sample objects, namespaces, images, paths and hosts with approved targets. Share only relevant, sanitized output. Follow the workload owner’s process for changes.
docker compose images
docker compose config --images
Read the result
The first command describes images used by current project containers; the second lists configured image references. Equal tags still do not prove equal content.
Resolve and verify
Compare the approved model and verified digest with existing container configuration. Use the supported reviewed update workflow and validate readiness and persistent data afterward.
Before changing production
Do not assume restart changes mounts, environment or image content, and do not recreate stateful services without a data plan.
