Diagnose a sync problem without deleting cloud files
A file visible locally may not yet be available to colleagues because synchronization is paused, blocked or targeting a different account. Confirm the sync state before moving or removing data.
Environment and inputs: Everyday IT support · Windows PowerShell examples unless specified
Try the diagnostic command
Use the stated shell and platform. Replace sample domains, addresses, services and paths with values from the system you are authorized to support.
Get-Item -LiteralPath "$env:USERPROFILE\OneDrive\Documents\example.docx" | Select-Object FullName, Length, LastWriteTime, Attributes
How to read the result
The PowerShell example shows local metadata only. Replace the path with the user's actual managed sync folder; local existence and size do not prove upload completion.
What to do next
Inspect the sync client's error and account, compare the cloud version in the authorized web interface, and check whether the file is open or has a restricted name. Preserve unsynced work before recovery actions.
Before you make a change
Deleting from a synced folder can propagate deletion to the cloud and other devices. Do not reset or unlink the client before protecting local-only changes.
