Correlate a RHEL-family server failure with package transaction history
An incident after patching needs the exact transaction and packages, not only an approximate maintenance time.
Environment and inputs: Linux server baseline · Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / RHEL 9-style systems. Use the specified distribution, init system and installed tool; service names, privileges and supported options can differ.
Start with this check
Confirm the host, shell and access role. Replace sample names, paths, domains and interfaces with approved targets. These are diagnostic commands; assess policy and workload impact before making changes.
dnf history list
Read the result
On a DNF-managed host with suitable access, this lists recorded transactions. It does not prove that the server booted the newly installed kernel or that application migration completed.
Resolve and verify
Inspect the relevant transaction details and compare running versions with package and service logs. Plan a supported targeted correction or rollback with the owner.
Before changing production
Do not roll back an entire production transaction without checking repository availability, data migrations and security impact.
