Investigate a PLC watchdog trip through task timing evidence
A watchdog exception can follow excessive execution time, scheduling delay or a specific runtime defect rather than a failed CPU.

Observe and record
Record the fault detail, affected task, configured watchdog and retained minimum, maximum and recent cycle measurements where supported.
Interpret the evidence
Average cycle time can hide a rare overrun. Task period, execution duration and watchdog sensitivity are different quantities.
Resolve and verify
Correlate the event with code changes, communications and high-load operations, then test a targeted correction offline or in an approved controlled environment.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not disable the watchdog or extend it indefinitely to conceal a repeatable overrun.
