PLC / Industrial Networks & PLC Communications
Separate a PLC subnet or route mismatch from an application protocol error
A device can work from one engineering station while another path cannot reach it because addressing or routing differs.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Review the approved address, mask, gateway and network path on both ends using normal configuration and infrastructure diagnostics.
Interpret the evidence
A familiar network prefix does not establish a shared subnet, and successful link status does not prove permitted routing.
Resolve and verify
Correct the demonstrated managed network configuration through the OT owner, then validate the specific authorized protocol path and device identity.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not bridge separated plant networks or add arbitrary gateways to every PLC as a workaround.
