PLC / PLC Programming, Timing & State Logic
Diagnose a PLC sequence waiting indefinitely in one state
A sequence can remain in a step because its required condition never arrives, is stale or belongs to a different mode.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Record the current state, entry time where available, transition conditions, feedback quality and previous state from approved observation.
Interpret the evidence
A stuck step is not necessarily a state-machine defect. It may be correctly waiting for an unavailable physical prerequisite.
Resolve and verify
Trace the earliest failed condition through the approved sequence documentation, repair its actual cause and validate normal and fault recovery paths.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not force the next state or skip feedback merely to complete the cycle.
