PLC / PLC Fundamentals & Fault Diagnosis
Explain why a PLC in RUN does not prove the machine is ready
A CPU can execute code while a remote rack, application permissive or downstream device prevents production.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Record CPU operating mode, module status, communication health and the application's documented ready-state indicators without changing machine state.
Interpret the evidence
RUN describes controller execution context, not verified actuator readiness or permission to restart the process. Different faults can coexist.
Resolve and verify
Trace the earliest failed prerequisite through the approved cause-and-effect documentation. Repair that dependency and validate the intended sequence in the authorized commissioning process.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not force ready bits, bypass an interlock or use CPU RUN status as permission for unexpected movement.
