PLC / HMI, SCADA, Alarms & Historian
Compare PLC and HMI evidence with timestamp provenance
An alarm or trend can appear to precede its cause when devices use different clocks, timezones or timestamp sources.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Record each system's displayed time, timezone and whether the value uses source, server or client timestamps where supported.
Interpret the evidence
Timestamp display precision does not establish clock accuracy. Polling delay and buffering can reorder what the operator sees.
Resolve and verify
Align evidence using approved time records and repair documented synchronization or display configuration through the relevant owner.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not change production controller clocks during an active sequence or infer causal order from unsynchronized displays alone.
