PLC / Analog Signals & Measurement Quality
Find an engineering-unit mismatch before adjusting analog scaling
Values can disagree because one layer uses different units, reference conditions or conventions rather than because the sensor is faulty.
Environment and inputs: Industrial PLC / automation guidance · Verify the exact controller, module, firmware, engineering tool and machine documentation. Linked vendor examples apply to their stated products and library versions; observation, state changes and physical work require distinct authorization.
Observe and record
Record unit labels and approved definitions at transmitter, PLC logic, HMI and historian, including gauge versus absolute references where relevant.
Interpret the evidence
Similar numbers and labels do not establish equal meaning. Unit conversion can be nonlinear or depend on process reference conditions.
Resolve and verify
Correct the authoritative units and documented conversions, then validate normal and boundary cases with the process owner and update operator labels consistently.
Machine and data safeguards
Do not tune a controller or change alarm thresholds until the measurement's meaning is confirmed.
